Main subsystems Base / Mobility Heavy-duty wheeled cart or small trailer with lockable casters or pneumatic tires. Low center of gravity, splash-proof. Tow hitch optional (for moving between yards). Telescoping Boom + Articulation Telescoping mast (square steel tubing) with at least two articulating joints (rotating + tilt). Friction or locking clamps to hold angle; optional worm-gear or small motorized actuator to change height/angle. Reach: aim for 12–18 ft of horizontal reach for larger vessels (modular sections for longer reach). Polishing Head Assembly Brushless DC motor (or AC with VFD) mounted to a swivel gimbal to keep pad flush to hull. Interchangeable backing plates 3″, 5″, 7″, 9″ quick-release. Speed range: variable from low (500–1,000 OPM for cut) to higher for finishing (2,000–6,000 OPM) — implement variable-speed control. (Use appropriate head type: random orbital or forced-rotation depending on finishing preference.) Motor/Drive & Controls Motor with integrated encoder and electronic speed controller (for smooth torque at low RPM). Foot pedal or handheld remote for speed control + deadman switch + emergency stop. GFCI-protected mains input or generator supply; waterproof connectors (IP65+). Power source Yard mains (120/240VAC) with GFCI or a quiet generator sized to supply motor(s). If multiple motors or VFDs, plan ~3–5 kW. Pad/Compound Delivery & Recovery (optional but helpful) Small onboard pump and hose for controlled water or compound delivery. Soft splash See more
