Soda Can at the Top Draw a soda can filled with water. Label: Water in Soda Can. Inside the can, draw wavy lines to show increasing temperature. Add label: Water temperature increases because heat transfers from flame to can and water. Burning Food at the Bottom Draw a small piece of food on a stand (or just on a tray). Show flames coming off the food. Label: Burning food (chemical energy → heat energy). Energy Transfer Arrows Draw upward arrows from the flame to the bottom of the soda can. Label the arrows: Heat energy rises from burning food → heats the can → heats water. Surroundings Optionally, show some heat escaping into the air with arrows labeled: Energy lost to surroundings.
