In the next 50 years, the Pacific Plate will continue slowly subducting beneath the Philippine Sea Plate near Japan. This will likely cause more earthquakes and possible volcanic activity, including a possible eruption of Mount Fuji. The movement will be small, only a few centimeters per year, but GPS data will show steady shifts. Japan may move slightly westward toward the Eurasian Plate. See more
