engineering blueprint of automatic drainage system. FlowGuard is a modular, self-cleaning drainage cover system designed to prevent urban flooding by maintaining uninterrupted stormwater flow during rainfall events. The system replaces a standard street drain cover with an active unit that monitors drainage conditions and intervenes automatically when blockages begin to form. By addressing clogged drains at the street level, where flooding most often starts, FlowGuard prevents water from backing up onto roads and sidewalks during storms. At the surface, FlowGuard features a reinforced stainless steel grate engineered to safely support pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Beneath the grate is a sealed low-speed gear motor connected to a rotating actuation ring. Attached to this ring is a curved sweeping brush made of industrial-grade nylon bristles, oriented upward so the bristle tips press lightly against the underside of the drain openings. Along the curb side of the drain, a fixed debris collection basket captures material that is dislodged from the grate surface while allowing water to continue flowing into the drainage system. During rainfall, debris such as leaves and plastic accumulates on top of the grate and can seal the drain openings, restricting water flow. Water-level and flow sensors positioned just below the grate continuously measure drainage performance. When rising water or reduced flow is detected, the control system activates a brief cleaning sequence. The See more
