Description for visual generation: The Sanctuary of the Jerusalem Temple The majestic sanctuary, located in the center of the Jerusalem Temple, is a rectangular building of light-colored limestone clad with gold plates, so that in the sun's rays it glows like fire. In front of the sanctuary is a wide courtyard with an altar and a huge copper laver (sea) for the priests' ablutions. The façade of the sanctuary is adorned with tall cypress wood gates covered in gold and inlaid with precious stones. Above the entrance is a golden lily and palm leaf ornaments, symbolizing holiness and life. The entrance is draped with a heavy purple-blue and crimson curtain, woven from linen and featuring cherubs. Inside, the sanctuary is divided into two parts: The Holy Place (Heichal) is illuminated by the soft light of the golden seven-branched candelabra (Menorah), standing on the south side. Opposite, on the north side, is the Table of Showbread (Shulchan LeChem HaPanim), overlaid with pure gold. In front of the veil is the golden Altar of Incense (Mizbe'ach HaKetoret), upon which the aroma of incense rises. The floor and walls are decorated with gold and cedar designs depicting palm trees, flowers, and angels. The Holy of Holies (Kodesh HaKodashim) is the innermost and most mysterious space, hidden behind the veil. Here stands the Ark of the Covenant (Aron HaBrit)—a golden chest with a lid called the Merkabah (Kaporet), above which two golden cherubim are spread out, facing each other. See more
