English is tricky. English is fun. It twists your tongue and puzzles everyone. There’s no butter in a butterfly. And a hotdog has no dog inside. We park on a driveway, but drive on a parkway, The words don’t match, yet we use them every day. A soldier eats dessert after he deserts in the desert, The lost knight could not see the sea on a stormy night. A cook cooks dinner using a cooker, You look at the crowd and spot a looker. You sweat when it’s hot although you wear a sweater, It should keep you warm, but it makes you wetter. One mouse, two mice, that’s what we say, One house, two houses, it works the same way. But one moose, two moose, no change at all, And one goose, two geese, rule’s too small. Teach becomes taught, but reach just reached. The rules are so twisted, the logic impeached. If you overlook something, you don’t pay attention, But to oversee means full supervision. Your house burns up as it burns down, The shop closed up when it closed down. An alarm goes off by going on, English is crazy, the game goes on. So clap to the beat, just take your time, English is crazy but crazy’s just fine. See more
