During the 9th century, King Causantín mac Fergusa established a more significant monastic complex. Reddish Sandstone: The substantial monastery was built using reddish sandstone. Significance as a Religious Center Pricely Centre: Causantín declared Dunkeld the primacy (centre) of the faith in Alba (Scotland). St Columba's Relics: King Kenneth MacAlpin moved the relics of St Columba to Dunkeld around 849 AD. Lingering Evidence Reddish Streak: Stones from the original monastery can be seen as an irregular reddish streak in the eastern gable of the later Dunkeld Cathedral. Apostle's Stone: A beautifully carved 9th-century Apostle's Stone cross slab, located in the sanctuary, is a visible remnant of this early Christian presence. See more
