This system uses CO₂ and calcium from seawater to make calcium carbonate, the stuff that forms its hard skeleton. They coat it with a conductive layer and dunk it in a calcium solution, expose it to CO₂ and run electricity through it for 4 days (Shavit, 2025). This triggers a chemical reaction that fills the 3D printed skeleton with calcium carbonate. See more
