Sketch your own examples of the Expressive Tools featured for each design area (see diagrams on pgs. 33, 36, & 39). Use the Elements and Principles listed above to help you show how designs can use these tools to express certain feelings or meanings. For sets and lighting, you should be sketching all or part of a stage; for costume examples you should sketch (or trace!) a human figure to put your costume on. These sketches should be simple and show the concepts in use in a theatrical way, not just as an abstract concept. (For example, for Lighting-Angle, don't just draw a bunch of triangles, draw how the angle of the light affects the actor or scenery. You can combine 2 or 3 concepts in one sketch, as long as they are labeled clearly (for example, you could sketch a costume that used a rough texture and a specific accent). SET COSTUME LIGHTING SPACE SILHOUETTE ANGLE LEVELS COLOR QUALITY TEXTURE TEXTURE COLOR COLOR ACCENT TEXTURE SCALE Interpret the Expressions and Principles; you should do a small sketch of a set, lighting, or costume that incorporates or shows these concepts. You can do each separately, or combine 2-3 concepts in one sketch. So you could end with 14 small sketches or 5 sketches that each have 2-3 concepts incorporated (like combining Texture, Color, and Silhouette in a costume sketch), or any other combination. The goal is to show each concept on the list in some way. It’s up to you! As always, if you have questions, please email me. Please see attached See more
