A single-story ranch house built low and wide against the harsh desert landscape of southwestern Panem. The structure is constructed from weathered sandstone blocks and sun-bleached wood siding, with a rust-red corrugated metal roof that blends with the surrounding earth tones. The home sits on a foundation of local stone, raising it slightly above the packed dirt yard to protect against flash floods common in desert regions.A wraparound covered porch extends across the front and one side, supported by thick wooden posts carved from salvaged timber. The porch ceiling holds practical items - coiled rope, work gloves, and a patched canvas water bag. Mismatched solar panels are mounted on the roof, clearly added over time as the family could afford them. The yard is hard-packed earth swept clean but dusty, with sparse desert vegetation and a few ceramic pots containing hardy succulents. A weathered pickup truck sits under a makeshift carport built from scrap metal and wooden posts. Wooden fence lines stretch into the distance. Behind and to one side of the house, a small barn and several outbuildings house the family's personal livestock - a few milk cows, goats, pigs, and chickens that provide for the household. Wooden corrals and wire-fenced pens contain these animals, with a windmill nearby pumping water into metal troughs. Hay bales are stacked under a three-sided shelter next to the barn. See more
