🦕 Parasaurolophus – The Crested Herbivore Parasaurolophus was a large, plant-eating dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 76–73 million years ago. It belonged to a group of dinosaurs known as hadrosaurs or "duck-billed dinosaurs." 🧠 Key Features: Crest: Its most iconic feature was the long, backward-curving crest on its head, which could reach over 6 feet (1.8 meters) long. Scientists believe it may have been used for: Communication (amplifying calls) Display (to attract mates or identify species) Thermoregulation (helping control body temperature) Body: Parasaurolophus was a large, bipedal/quadrupedal herbivore, meaning it could walk on two legs or four, depending on the situation (e.g. speed vs. feeding). Diet: It had a beak-like mouth and hundreds of teeth perfect for grinding tough plants, like ferns and conifers. Social Behavior: Evidence suggests it lived in herds, possibly migrating for food or protection. Its crest may have played a role in herd communication. See more
