Once there was a wombat named Wally who lived near a dusty road in the Australian bush. Wally wasn’t like the other wombats. While most liked to dig tunnels and eat grass, Wally loved to jump. Every day he would hop over rocks, bounce off logs and even leap over fences. One hot afternoon, Wally heard a loud noise—VROOOOM! A shiny red car was speeding down the road. The animals nearby ran away, but not Wally. He stood in the middle of the dirt track, eyes wide, legs ready. As the car got closer, Wally took a deep breath and BOING!—he launched into the air. He flipped once, then twice, then landed perfectly on the other side of the road with a little thud and a puff of dust. The car screeched to a stop. The driver stepped out, mouth hanging open. “Did that wombat just do a backflip?” Wally gave a cheeky wink and trotted off into the bush like nothing happened. From that day on, Wally was known as the Backflipping Wombat, and animals from all around came to watch his amazing stunts. See more
