Matariki and the glow of the moon. In the beginning all you could see at night was stars and Big star. Big star was a giant rock in the sky. People started to complain about Big star. “All she does is sit there and do nothing!”When it's cloudy we can’t see the stars! We need some light. Big star was very upset.“I’m so sorry. I wish I could help!”Matariki also wanted to help. So she asked her sisters for help. None of them knew what to do! Until Hiwa-i-te-Rangi says… “um peoples wish for more light in the sky. We could do that.” Matariki’s blue fingers suddenly twitched. “Ka pai Hiwaiterangi”. Matariki flew around the entire sky to tell everybody the great news. Finally she told Big Star. “Big Star, we need more light in the sky”. Big Star had an idea but she was very nervous. “ Um Matariki”, she said slowly, “can I be the big light in the sky?”. Matariki was overjoyed. “Of course you can, but how”, she replied. Matariki went to the star god. He would know what to do."Well, how about we ask some stars to live on big star to make her glow” Marariki got 50 stars to live on Big star.But Matariki still had 1 more thing to do. “ Big star, you will now be called THE MOON!!
