🌆 City Center (Centro Città ) The heart of the island, compact, circular, and symbolic. Layout & Architecture The Fountain: At the very center, a grand stone fountain with carved figures of sea creatures and saints. Everyone passes through here, making it the island’s natural stage. Circular Streets: The city radiates out from the fountain in tight concentric rings. Each ring has narrow cobblestone alleys that weave between buildings, sometimes so narrow only two people can pass shoulder to shoulder. Buildings: 3–4 stories tall, plastered in faded warm colors: gold, cream, burnt sienna. Wooden shutters, small balconies with iron railings, laundry strung across the alleys. Shops on the ground floor (bakeries, tailor shops, grocers), families living above. Atmosphere Always alive with noise: street vendors shouting, bells ringing, gossip carrying from balconies. People know everything about everyone — secrets don’t last long here. Though it feels welcoming and communal, there’s always a sense of watchfulness. The families’ eyes are everywhere. Important Spaces Palazzo del Sindaco (Mayor’s Palace): Valentina’s father’s residence, formally the “mayor’s office” but really just a façade.
