Have you ever lost someone close to you, someone who meant the whole world to you? If you have, then you probably know how I felt. Two years ago, I lost one of the most important people in my life, my dad.My dad was someone I looked up to, someone who worked two jobs to give his kids and wife the lifestyle they wanted. He was a husband, a father, an uncle, a son but most of all, he was my dad. Before the day it happened, everything seemed fine. The date was August 3rd, 2023. I was really happy because I was going to Bell Island with my friend and his family. We got there and did all the tourist stuff, and we got back around 6 PM. I fell asleep around 9 PM that night.I woke up at 6 AM the next morning. My dad walked into my room and said, “I love you, my buddy. Off to work now.” I replied, “I love you too.” Those were the last words I ever said to him. At 7:20 AM, my dad fell asleep at the wheel and passed away. The date was August 4th, 2023. I wouldn’t find out until 1 PM. I was taking a nap when I was woken up by my mom’s screams. At first, I didn’t know what had happened, but then my mom came running up the stairs, screaming her head off with a police officer following behind her. She opened the door, and as she tried to tell me, she dropped to the floor, crying, “Your dad’s dead, my honey.” Those words changed my life forever.I remember some things from that day, but most of it is blocked out from trauma.
