Humanoid cryptid creature made of roots, moss, and mushrooms standing in a dark forest.

The Mycothrope is a humanoid cryptid standing between 5 and 7 feet tall, with a form that mimics the human body but is distinctly otherworldly. Instead of a head, it bears a large, vibrant mushroom cap, ranging in color from deep crimson to earthy brown, often speckled with bioluminescent spots that glow faintly in the dark. The cap's texture varies by environment—smooth and glossy in damp forests, cracked and leathery in arid regions. Where a face would be, there is only a smooth, featureless expanse of fungal tissue, yet the creature seems to perceive its surroundings with uncanny precision. Its body is humanoid but covered in a thin layer of moss-like growth, interspersed with coiling vines that drape over its shoulders and limbs like natural armor. These vines are alive, subtly shifting and curling in response to the creature's movements or emotions. Tiny flowers, lichen, and small mushrooms sprout sporadically across its form, blending seamlessly with its surroundings. Its hands are elongated, with fingers that resemble slender roots, capable of burrowing into soil or entwining with plants. See more
