Leadership Accomplishment As Department Chair, I have worked closely with program directors and coordinators to enhance curriculum and program offerings. I led the revision of three departmental programs, integrating high-demand skills such as Land Development, Environmental Data Science, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) into the undergraduate curriculum. To keep students current with technology, I introduced tools including Powersim Studio, ArcGIS Pro, StormWise, and virtual reality, providing hands-on experience in systems modeling and geospatial analysis. I also helped transition the MS in Engineering program to the MS in Civil Engineering, now recognized as a Program of Strategic Emphasis, better aligning it with state priorities and industry needs. Beyond curriculum development, I have contributed to college-wide strategic initiatives. I co-chaired the WCE Strategic Planning and Doing Committee to develop a plan for an interdisciplinary hub for infrastructure and community resilience. Since January 2022, I have served as the Backe Chair of Research, where I established five strategic research areas in water and sustainability and engaged 18 students in research, with 12 co-authoring peer-reviewed publications with me. Currently, I serve as co-chair of the Regional Sustainability and Resilience Task Force, supporting the programming of the new institute at Babcock Ranch, including AB 11 building features, and advancing new curriculum and academic initiatives.
