Benjite, an igenous rock • Composed of coarse purple bumps laying within a gray matrix. (In geology, a matrix is the finer-grained mass of material in which larger grains, crystals, or clasts are embedded.) • Benjite rock formations are commonly found in protruding jagged structures that stand out from the surrounding landscape, often near mountain ranges. However, there is evidence to suggest that massive benjite formations also exist beneath the surface, hidden deep underground. See more
