The Invisible Lid experiment proved that animals can be conditioned to limit their behaviour. Fleas were placed in a jar and when the lid was left on the jar, the fleas eventually adapted by not jumping as high to avoid injury. After the lid was removed, the fleas were incapable of returning to their original jump height.
