"An antique 19th-century electromagnetic coil device setup on a wooden frame, featuring a long cylindrical iron core wrapped with thick layers of copper wire coils—primary coil of fine wire and secondary coil of wide flattened wire ribbon. Thick insulating kraft paper layers wrapped between coils. Nearby, an adjustable metal spark gap assembly with two brass electrodes about 3-5 millimeters apart on a wooden bracket. Several sharp metal needle points protrude from metal rods nearby to create corona discharge. The device has cloth-insulated copper wire leads and a mechanical crank-handled magneto generator connected electrically. Multiple small permanent magnets or coil bars arranged around the wooden frame on adjustable metal brackets designed to be energized in sequence. The whole apparatus looks hand-built, from wood, metal, paper, and copper wire, heavy and intricate, with a vintage industrial 1870s steampunk style." See more
