The Ancient Puebloans inhabited the American Southwest around 900-1300 CE. They made these artifacts out of clay and designed to represent a frog. Not only did the artifact have a use it held ceremonial and symbolic significance. The vessels were used to catch water and rain and believed to be used in ceremonial practices. Frogs were also seen as a sign of fertility, so water was important for crop growth. They fact that they created pottery with purpose and beliefs shows they had a lot of expression and possibly believed their god was a frog. Or they were very superstitious. See more
