Indus priests were the absolute highest social class and held high societal status. The urban layout, particularly the grid patterns, sewage systems, and use of standardized brick sizes were across the widely separated cities of the Indus Valley Civilization (like Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa). Every village had a schoolmaster that would teach children from when they were about five years old to when they were eight years old. A Guru (which was a type of teacher) would live with his student until the student was twenty. Until then the student was required to do chores and services for the Guru.
