The Texayan Shepherd is a medium-to-large, well-balanced dog, slightly longer than tall, with a strong yet elegant build. Its head is broad and gently rounded with a moderate stop, expressive almond-shaped eyes, and medium triangular ears set high and carried semi-erect with a forward break. The expression is intelligent, playful, and friendly. The neck is moderately long and well-arched, blending into a level and firm topline. The body features a deep chest, well-sprung ribs, and a short, strong, slightly arched loin. The tail is full, long, heavily plumed, carried in a loose curve and hangs naturally at rest. Legs are straight and parallel in front, broad and well-muscled in the hindquarters, with oval, compact feet. The dense double coat has a soft, thick undercoat and a harsh, straight, stand-off outer coat, forming a mane around the neck, especially in males.
