Only about 40% of Harare residents have access to save drinking water. The majority of others collect their water from Lake Chivero, Harare’s main source of water. It is also where the city’s untreated sewage water is dumped, as their treatment plant is unable to treat the water, due to the city’s rapid expansion in population. Harare is ranked to have one of the lowest health care services in the world, with many falling to diseases and illness. Poor water supply and sanitation have led to the release of dieseases like cholera and typhoid in Harare. Due to the governments unavailability to fund, hospitals, and health care services, as made it difficult for patients to receive care. Public-Health Care systems have collapsed, causing daily medical services to no longer be available. Patients can’t supply themselves with prescriptions or drugs, hospitals have ran out of medical supplies. And equipment has become unusable. To imrove water mangement in Harare, some things must go a undertaking: Investment in infrastructure Better governance Put in place local councils to govern water management.
