Reimagined Statue of Liberty with a multicultural woman and child holding a torch and book

1. Central Figure A multicultural woman, blending features from different ethnic backgrounds — African, Asian, Indigenous, Latin American, and European — to show that liberty belongs to everyone. She wears a robe that echoes the original statue but incorporates patterns inspired by global cultures (e.g., African kente cloth, Native American beadwork, Asian embroidery). Her face is calm but strong, with eyes open — unlike the original, which is more stoic — symbolizing awareness and responsibility. 🔗 2. Chains at Her Feet Broken chains are clearly visible, not hidden, representing the abolition of slavery and the fight against oppression worldwide. Nearby, a small child figure of color helps hold up one of the broken chains, symbolizing the future breaking free from past injustice. 🔥 3. Torch of Truth Instead of just light, the torch includes a flame made of reflective glass, showing the viewer’s image — symbolizing individual responsibility in upholding liberty. Inscribed on the torch: “Justice, Memory, Truth, Freedom.” 📖 4. Tablet The tablet is replaced with an open book, one page showing the U.S. Constitution and the other engraved with: Quotes from Emma Lazarus, Frederick Douglass, Chief Joseph, and immigrant poets and activists. Room for future voices to be added digitally via QR codes at the base. 🌱 5. Base / Pedestal The pedestal is made from stone and reclaimed wood, symbolizing the foundation built by immigrant labor, enslaved labor, and Indigenous land. Relief See more
