This magnificent round shield is crafted from layered wood and reinforced with bands of steel, measuring about 2.5 feet in diameter. Its face is painted with the traditional Cossack colors - deep crimson background with a golden cross at the center, surrounded by eight-pointed stars and stylized wheat sheaves. Around the shield's edge, Cyrillic inscriptions in Church Slavonic read: "За віру, за волю, за народ" (For Faith, For Freedom, For the People) - the traditional Cossack motto. The shield's most striking feature is the large, painted eye at its center - the "Eye of the Sich" - which seems to follow movement and occasionally blinks. See more
