🎭 Concept: The Deception of the Game A full-face mask represents how everyone in Caraval hides behind a role. The cracks symbolize the moments when the illusion breaks—when the truth starts to show through the performance. 🃏 Design Elements Playing cards: scattered across one side of the mask to show chance, risk, and how players’ fates depend on luck in the game. You could use real mini cards or paint them in layered patterns, like a collage of spades and hearts fanning out. Butterflies: symbols of transformation and fragility—how characters (and the mask itself) seem delicate and beautiful, but constantly change form. Maybe they could be escaping from one of the cracks, like illusions taking flight. Cracks: could split the mask between two contrasting halves: One half could be gold and polished, representing the glamorous, enchanting world the audience sees. The other half could be darker and fractured, with exposed “underneath” textures (black, gray, maybe even mirror shards or rough paint strokes) representing hidden truths or emotional scars. Red and gold color palette: Red for passion, risk, and the heart of the game. Gold for illusion, wealth, and false promises of glory. A touch of black could deepen the drama and highlight deception. 🪞 Symbolic Touches You could add a small mirror piece or reflective foil somewhere to show how illusion reflects back on the viewer—how we all get caught up in appearances. Maybe write “It’s only a game” in fine gold lettering along See more
